We all know that the Datejust is one of the most iconic and desirable models from Rolex, especially the 36mm examples like this one. We are always trying to move differently and source the more uncommon watches, but it’s becoming harder each day. Besides that the 16220 offers the vintage design aesthetic while delivering the robustness from a modern timepiece.

This particular Datejust from 1999 ticks all the boxes while having a special touch to it. It is not the classic Datejust look as you would expect because of the stainless steel Oyster bracelet. With the introduction of this model in 1945, the Jubilee bracelet was introduced too, it is therefore logical that most Datejust are fitted on this 5-link bracelet. The Oyster bracelet however, gives the watch a more sporty appeal. Also the bezel is something odd, from a distance you would think this is a white gold fluted bezel but that is not the case. Engine turned is what this bezel design is called, referring to the method of production. A watchmaker lathe is used to make this pattern in the stainless steel bezel. This reference 16220 is the actual last reference to feature these kind of bezels, today it is discontinued. Through the sapphire crystal you'll see the blue dial has a sunburst finish, which is very appealing to the eye when light shines on it. The hour markers are applied roman numerals, giving the watch a classic look.
