Rolex Daytona 116520 'APH Dial'

The Daytona wasn’t loved at first, but nowadays it’s by far one of the most desirable models from Rolex. A true icon. This particular model, the 116520 was a historical change in its production of the Daytona.

In 2000, Rolex unveiled the caliber 4130, marking a significant milestone in their pursuit of crafting entirely in-house movements. This innovation found its debut in the new Daytona model, referenced as 116520. The primary goal behind this development was to enhance the precision and reliability of the iconic Daytona timepiece.

Beyond the internal enhancements, Rolex also made subtle external modifications to the Daytona. Notably, the relocation of the second indicator from the 9 o'clock position to the 6 o'clock position, along with aligning the hour register with the 30-minute register, contributed to a refined aesthetic. Additionally, the white dial boasted wider markers and slightly elongated lugs compared to its predecessor, the reference 16520.

For the ones who know, this isn’t your regular Daytona 116520, this particular example features an APH dial which refers to a rare manufacturing error, produced between approximately 2009-2014, where a typographical flaw causes a visible space between the "R" and "APH" in the word "COSMOGRAPH"

This timepiece, amazingly maintained and preserved, stands ready for its next adventure. The conditions of this particular example are amazing. The bracelet shows no stretch, the case is still thick and the dial is pristine. The white dial is more desirable than its black brother and we understand why.
