LUXURIOUS BUT NOT LOUD
Released in 1999, the Yacht-Master 16622 was the first model to feature what Rolex calls “Rolesium”, a mix of stainless steel and platinum. The case and bracelet are made from steel, while the bezel and dial are solid platinum.
The 40mm case feels solid and well-balanced. It has a platinum bezel that turns smoothly in both directions, with raised, sandblasted numbers that give it a soft texture and a bit of grip. This isn’t a bezel for diving, it’s more about timing things casually, which fits the lifestyle it was made for.
The platinum dial has a matte, almost sandy look to it. It catches the light in a subtle way, not flashy, just clean. The hour markers are surrounded by white gold, filled with lume, and matched with the familiar Mercedes-style hands. The date window sits at 3 o’clock, with the usual Cyclops magnifier on top.
